What Are Mashups?
A mashup is a song or composition created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another. Mashup culture dates back to early 2000s internet with a Dadaist philosophy and roots in music subcultures such as hip-hop, known by names such as “creative bootleg” or “bastard pop”. Peer-to-peer technology and the rise of sites such as YouTube have lent mashups thier staying power well into the 2020s.

It’s ideal for beginners who are new to audio engineering due to being free, open-source software with plug-in suppport. In time, creators can then incorporate or upgrade to software such as Virtual DJ, GoldWave, Ableton Live, and various other softwares depending on personal needs and styles.
